Fatoumatta is an enthusiastic women
peacebuilder, social justice and cohesion advocate, advancer of Women Peace and
Security and Youth Peace and Security Agenda, Fatoumatta is passionate about
peacebuilding initiatives in The Gambia and beyond. Fatoumatta is an alumnus
from the Young Political Leadership School. Her leadership training has avail
her the skills to deliver beyond expectation and lead her team during
implementations of projects. She is also a trainee of International
Organization for Migration on Strengthening Communication and Migration in The
Gambia. She is a certified National Trainer of Youth Participation in Electoral
Process by African Governance Architecture. She is also certified Election
Observer under the CSO Coalition on Elections in The Gambia.
As one of the few women peacebuilders
in the country, Fatoumatta has received numerous trainings from reputable
institutions that has helped in creating more impact in communities. Being passionate
about advancing the women peace and security and youth peace and security Agenda
of the United Nations, in The Gambia and beyond, Fatoumatta is leading
initiatives of popularization of the agendas through community engagements and
sensitization, Fatoumatta never fails to stress on the importance of inclusion
of young people and women including PLWDs in decision making processes. As a
great communicator and speaker of two international languages and three local
languages, Fatoumatta champions and facilitates community session and dialogues
in local languages on the root causes of violent conflicts and how community
members can strategize local solutions to address those root causes and for
sustainable peace and development. Fatoumatta is currently leading the “She
Champion Peace and Women Peace Circle” initiative where women safe spaces are
created to discuss on how to represent themselves in decision making and
peacebuilding without intimidation. She
is currently leading and managing the project “SDGs on The Wheel”, a first-time
project of its kind in The Gambia, where local solutions will be applied to the
challenges the SDGs face in the Gambia and beyond.
In September 2016, Fatoumatta gained
admission into University of The Gambia to pursue a Bachelor’s Degree in
Political Science. During her time as a university student, Fatoumatta has
volunteered in various school activities where she inspired fellow students and
left a positive mark. She was the first female to ever contest for the position
of Auditor General of the School of Science and Humanities Students Association
[SoSHSA] at the University of The Gambia, a position that was mostly reserved
for men thus breaking the bias. This position was unopposed because of her
unmatching determination and leadership skills. She also served as the Vice
President of the University Debate Association. Accordingly, she also took
part in the University Debate Association’s Nation-Wide Tour where she trained
young students on Debate and Public Speaking and inspired them on career
building, sensitized them on the importance of tertiary education and the
dangers of irregular migration.
Fatoumatta currently works with Peace
Hub The Gambia, a peacebuilding and social cohesion civil society organization
as the Admin and Finance Coordinator. She leads a team of six person and serves
as a liaison between staff and management. As Admin and Finance Coordinator,
she works closely with the National Programme Coordinator (NPC)
on the day-to-day administration of PHTG including the operations and
management of all projects
Fatoumatta Camara is a young vibrant woman who graduated in 2013
from Gambia Senior Secondary School. After graduation she continued to pursue
her education in Kuwait University where she did Arabic as a Second Language
and pursued a Diploma in Business Administration. After completion of her
studies, she applied for a job at Heewal Bureau De Chance where she worked as a
teller for a year. She was responsible for daily payouts transactions and
preparation of weekly and monthly reports of all transactions conducted. She
spent one year working in a financial institution and learned valuable
financial skills. She then moved to SS Institute of Creative Designs - a
skill center working towards the improvement of the skill industry in The
Gambia. As an Assistant Administrative Manager, she was responsible for running
the administrative duties before her promotion as Center Manager in
2018. Being promoted as Center Manager made her a leader and decision
making became the order of the day. This made her strengthen her managerial
and leadership skills in her professional career
